Marketing all over the place? Execute Your Plan Consistently

Congratulations on coming this far – after defining your target market, identifying your desired end result, finding out what works in your industry and creating your marketing plan, you are so close to getting your marketing in line and working for you – to attract the very business you want.

There’s no stopping now – in fact, without this last step success cannot be gained. Without it, the rest is simply meaningless. You’ve got to do the work to make it happen. That is: execute your plan consistently.

When I first started as a professional organizing business owner, I tried endless things to get clients. If I learned about something that was said to provide results I would try it (no matter that it might not be a match for my target – I didn’t think of that).

When nothing panned out I would get discouraged. There was many a time I felt like I was failing. The problem, besides not targeting a specific niche with what was proven to work, was that I didn’t stick to anything. I tried things out here and there, like submitting a press release, writing an article, offering a class, experimenting with a referral program, or blogging sporadically.

I didn’t do any of these things consistently, or dare I say, well. What I know now, after years of studying marketing, is that the key is consistency. Like developing a new habit, effort must be made in earnest. Over and over, and matched in basically the same way, every time.

We human beings like things that are dependable. Every time we head to our favorite coffee shop for a cappuccino, we want 1) it to be there for us and 2) for our coffee to be delivered just the way we like it.

Proving to your prospects that you provide something of value on a regular basis is important. They grow accustomed to it, and generally know what to expect from it. It becomes familiar, and so do you. There’s a comfort in that, and a level of comfort with you that can’t be achieved with piece-meal, trial and error, random marketing tactics.

While things may get in the way of consistently marketing your business – whether through ads, PR, email, blogging or other proven ways to get results in your niche – remember that consistency is the key to making it all work, and making things happen.
