5 Cs of Home Staging

  • Clutter-free
  • Clear
  • Clean
  • Current
  • Charming

CLUTTER-FREE
Clutter is a BIG one. Who doesn’t have it? But it’s got to be cleared out so people can see the amenities in your home, and not be distracted by your stuff. Remove clutter from floors and all horizontal surfaces: countertops, desks, tables and shelving. Artfully arrange a few select non-personal decorative items.

CLEAR
More space is high on buyers’ must-have lists. Create open space by removing extra furniture, bulky items and scatter rugs. Remove at least 20% of the items from packed closets and storage areas. Ensure there’s a nice flow, and plenty of breathing room in your furniture arrangements.

CLEAN
This is the time to really get in there and do all the deep cleaning you’ve been avoiding. (Or hire someone!) Clean your home from top to bottom, inside and out – from floorboards to lighting, from cupboards to windows – make sure everything is fresh and gleaming.

CURRENT
Buyers want move-in ready, not a bunch of updates and fixes the day they move in. Bring all the fixtures and finishes up-to-date. This includes lighting, hardware, cabinetry, flooring and walls. Paint neutral, on-trend wall colors to make it fresh and inviting.

CHARMING
Wow them with the details, and play up your home’s best features, whether that’s curb appeal, outdoor living space, a fireplace, great room, beautiful kitchen or bath. Show how each room can be used. Add artwork, fun accessories, new throw pillows. Bring in plants and fresh flowers to add life.

Getting a house ready for market can be overwhelming, but there is a payoff at the end! With a clutter-free, clear, clean, current and charming listing, you’re sure to be at an advantage over the competition.
